ApproachTo realise these objectives requires cooperation from the supply chain for perennials and flower bulbs. The Platform is not only encouraging growers to have their products certified but also consulting with the providers of certificates in order to facilitate participation among the suppliers.
In addition, the Platform is working on knowledge development that is necessary to realize the ambitions. Research is currently being conducted into (biological) alternatives to neonicotinoids in production and into the 'true and fair price' with transparency of the sustainability costs of production and trade of flower bulbs. A Carbon Footprint model was previously made for determining the CO2 emissions of shipments of flower bulbs and perennials.
